I think I always knew I wasn't happy with the opening lines, but rushed on with the rest of the story - but I'll have to go back to it at some point!<br />JenJen Blackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12628305777383099281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2324257133568010275.post-18607969085784554372010-01-06T09:14:29.737+00:002010-01-06T09:14:29.737+00:00Interesting post, Jen and we have lots of snow ...Interesting post, Jen and we have lots of snow 'down south' here too. I have stopped singing the Let It Snow... song, it's lost appeal. Anyway, punchy first lines that catch attention are a good idea, but slightly harder to achieve when you are writing in the 17th Century. Elizabeth threw herself into the saddle and clipped a Roundhead on the helmet on her way to the gate.... doesn't quite work!!!Anita Davisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13068890701803582595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2324257133568010275.post-68793776144276597002010-01-06T01:51:24.529+00:002010-01-06T01:51:24.529+00:00Maass has some interesting things to say. I do, however, think it's important to get a first chapter that really "hooks" the reader in such a way that he or she will want to keep reading. This is "probably" going to involve action of some kind, and it's going to hint at some kind of conflict. Other than that, I can only say it (probably) depends. . . .Anne Gilberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03045500116098233731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2324257133568010275.post-55385794457494085532010-01-05T19:23:57.184+00:002010-01-05T19:23:57.184+00:00Brrr it is cold out there isn't it!?

Catch the reader on the first page and try to keep them hooked. That's what I've been told. Take care. Caroline xCarolinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00005714506570642538noreply@blogger.com
